A Celebration of the Sacraments
Sacrament of Baptism
Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy Parish seeking the baptism of immediate family members (their children or grandchildren) must contact the parish office ( 941) 964-2254. In the case of a grandchild, if the child’s parents do not live in the parish, they must take the Baptismal catechesis given in their parish and obtain the written permission of their pastor for the Baptism at Our Lady of Mercy Parish. The parents then complete the Form requesting the information that will be recorded in the Parish Baptismal Register and on the Certificate of Baptism. The form will be supplied by the parish office. Except for special circumstances Baptism is scheduled on Saturday at 11: 30 a.m.
Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance)
Confessions are heard each Saturday before the 5:00 P.M. Vigil Mass (4:15 -4:45). Where individuals find themselves in the painful impossibility of receiving sacramental absolution, it should be remembered that an act of perfect contrition coming from the love of God, and accompanied by a sincere request for forgiveness, that which the penitent is at present able to express and accompanied by the intention to have recourse as soon as possible to the Sacramental of Penance, obtains forgiveness of sins, even grave ones. (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1452).
Sacrament of First Holy Eucharist
Requests for a child to receive their First Holy Communion made by parents who are not parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy will be accepted provided that the child has received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and has been prepared to receive First Eucharist in his/her home parish. Documentation for this must be provided by the parents.
Sacrament of Marriage
Parishioners seeking to be married at Our Lady of Mercy Church must begin the required preparation at least six months in advance of the wedding. Couples who are not OLM Parishioners seeking to be married, may be married here only if they have parents or grandparents who are Boca Grande residents who have been parishioners at Our Lady of Mercy for at least a year. The parish does not accommodate others seeking destination weddings. Couples who do not reside here but have parents or grandparents here must do their marriage preparation in the parish where they reside. After contacting the pastor at Our Lady of Mercy, they will need a letter from their pastor giving them permission to be married at Our Lady of Mercy. The letter should include where and by whom the couple will be receiving their preparation and who will be compiling the marriage file. When this letter is received at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, we will send the couple information regarding the marriage preparation required and other information about weddings here at Our Lady of Mercy. When all of the above requirements have been met, the completed file containing the certificate of completion of the Marriage Preparation Program, affidavits of bride and groom, and affidavits of their freedom to marry, recent copies of Baptismal Certificates, and any necessary permissions or dispensations must be sent to the Chancellor of the Diocese of Venice (1000 Pinebrook Road, Venice, FL. 34285), no later than six weeks before the wedding. The Chancellor will then forward the file to Our Lady of Mercy. The civil marriage license must be issued by the State of Florida and can be obtained in any county of the state. It must be presented at the wedding rehearsal. Please note that all mail to Our Lady of Mercy Church must be addressed to P. O. Box 181, Boca Grande, FL. 33921
